This allows families to take time off work, stay by their loved ones’ side, or begin the healing process without the added stress of financial strain.
Founded by Ellen and Michael Barkann, the foundation reflects their deep connection to the community. Their passion for helping others grew through years of involvement with local charities. Five years ago, Ellen and her friend Mark Maggi organized a small golf outing to raise funds for families in need. After seeing the impact, they envisioned something greater—a foundation dedicated to providing financial assistance to families they personally knew or had heard about in their communities.
That simple idea has since grown into the Barkann Foundation, which now hosts the annual Fall Golf Classic as one of its key fundraising events. What started as one event with two people is now a larger mission, extending support to families of fallen police officers, firefighters, and others who have experienced unexpected hardships.

Managed by Scott Weitz, who has proudly served water ice at Barkann family events for 12 years, the table became a favorite stop for golfers throughout the day.
